Overview

Metz Elementary School is a 61,905 square foot school facility constructed in 1993 situated on a 5.79 acre site located in East ÁùºÏ±¦µä, bound by Anthony Street, Willow Street, Robert T. Martinez Jr. Street, and Garden Street.

Metz closed after the 2019-2020 school year. Its student population is now a part of , a newly modernized school located at 73 San Marcos Street.

Current Status

Metz is currently home to a variety of ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD departments that provide daily support to all district staff, students and families. These include: 

  • Health Services & Nursing - supports the health of students, staff, and families. This includes student health services provided through Dell Children's Medical Center and Ascension Seton in every campus health room, mental and behavioral health services in our School Mental Health Centers, vision and hearing screening as required by Board Policy FFAA, and Public Health initiatives to support holistic student wellness.
  • Library Media Services Department - offers a wide number of resources to staff and faculty. It provides cataloging and processing of library materials as well as curriculum support materials for use in all campus libraries. It also maintains the digital catalog and library automation system for ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD school libraries, evaluates online resources and helps librarians with technology needs. 
  • STEM - creates K-5 science kits aligned to the curriculum for all elementary science teachers. The center also supports K - 12 science classrooms with additional materials they may need for their science classroom, such as butterfly larvae, agar plates and lab equipment. It also offers field trip opportunities for all campuses to explore nature, play, and visit the planetarium.
  • Construction Management - the department’s mission is to successfully plan, design, construct and complete educational and support facilities that promote the district’s Strategic Plan and ÁùºÏ±¦µä Plan with Long-range Planning in the most cost effective and innovative manner. CMD is responsible for the management of all capital construction projects, large and small.
