Eat sustainably, choose school meals!
- Check out the Earth Week section of the . The menu includes local items such as bread, chia bars, milk, tamales, and tortillas. Menus will also feature a new plant-based favorite, Rebellyous Kickin’ Tenders.
- As part of ÁùºÏ±¦µä Earth Week, all ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD schools will feature locally grown, organic strawberries from Fredericksburg Peach Co. in Spicewood, TX at lunch on Tuesday and Thursday.
- Did you know that all 115 of ÁùºÏ±¦µä cafes receive monthly sustainability training? Lessons are related to the work done around composting, share tables, energy efficiency, and reusable serviceware.
- Cafe staff will celebrate Earth Week by wearing Earth Week t-shirts on Monday, April 22 and by playing Earth Week BINGO! The bingo cards include kitchen-focused zero waste strategies, as well as personal suggestions.
- As a recipient of an ÁùºÏ±¦µä Ed Fund Inspire the Future grant, Food Service will hold their Foods of the Future event on April 23. Culinary students from ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Bowie, and Travis High Schools, as well Clifton Career Development Center, will sample creative dishes using unique ingredients developed in collaboration with sustainable food experts.

Research shows children who learn and play in nature are healthier, happier and perform better in school. ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD leaders signed the pledge to support the ÁùºÏ±¦µä Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights, which was passed by the City Council in 2017.
Spring has Sprung, Time to Mulch!
Do your schools need mulch to prepare them for summer? Apply for an to fund your tree mulching project and visit the ÁùºÏ±¦µä Urban Forest Web Page for tips on how to properly mulch your trees. Mulching trees is essential for our Urban Forest’s long-term health, especially in Texas. Mulch helps conserve water, acts as a temperature regulator, and encourages soil microorganisms that will help improve the soil (source: Texas A&M Forest Service).

Protect our migrating birds by turning off all non-essential lights at night from March 1 - June 15, especially during the peak migration period of April 22 (Earth Day!) - May 12.
