Thirty ÁùºÏ±¦µäites Graduate from ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD UpClose Program

ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD celebrated thirty ÁùºÏ±¦µäites for their completion of the UpClose program with virtual graduation.

The ÁùºÏ±¦µä UpClose program offers families and community members a unique opportunity to learn about the district's infrastructure, programs and services, as well as the challenges and opportunities for improvements.

ÁùºÏ±¦µä Superintendent Paul Cruz recognized the graduates' accomplishments during the virtual ceremony.

"Thank you for all your work in UpClose and the volunteer time you do on your own to learn more about the district," he said. "I appreciate you taking the time to get to know us and the district a little better. You're helping us guide the work that goes in our school system."

In eight monthly meetings, the graduates met at district sites to have an inside look at key programs. In addition to monthly meetings, participants create a school-based impact project.

"Being part of the UpClose program has provided me with unique opportunities to visit various campuses and take an inside look at some of the programs offered through the district," said Jessica Bazan, one of the program graduates. "My most profound UpClose experience was when we visited the Clifton Career Development Program. I was unaware of how the district is giving students the opportunity to focus on career and technical education to ensure graduates are ready to enter the workforce and college."

About ÁùºÏ±¦µä UpClose

Created in 2007, UpClose offers a unique opportunity to learn about ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD. To date, approximately 380 participants have completed the program. UpClose graduates are challenged to become leaders and advocates for the district, to volunteer for service on committees and task forces, to speak up when misinformation is circulating, and to encourage other parents and community members to get informed and involved. The goal for class membership is to have equal and diverse representation from the district.
