ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD Continues to Support and Participate in Annual Pride Events

ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD is committed to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for students, staff and families.

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month. The month has been recognized since 1970, one year after the Stonewall Uprising, which took place on June 28, 1969, commemorating the impact the riots had had on society.

In honor of the celebration, ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD and members of the LGBTQ+ Affinity group will be gathering at 2:30 p.m. June 3 to raise the Pride flag at the flagpole on the courtyard of the ÁùºÏ±¦µä main office, 1111 W. Sixth St. The Pride flag will be raised at the ÁùºÏ±¦µä main office the week of June 3 and Oct. 7. This symbolic gesture will reiterate the district's commitment to our LGBTQ+ students, staff and families.

The district is also pleased to announce that funds generated from the rental of the ÁùºÏ±¦µä Performing Arts Center have been designated for district and campus Pride activities, including participation at the annual ÁùºÏ±¦µä Pride Parade, marking the sixth year of continued support and participation in the parade, happening this year on Aug. 10.

PAC rental funds will be used for costs such as transportation and other expenditures associated with both the Pride Parade and the district's celebration in October.

In addition, the district's LGBTQ+ Affinity Group will be coordinating a districtwide event Oct. 5 at the ÁùºÏ±¦µä Performing Arts Center, where LGBTQ+ students, staff and families will be celebrated to mark the beginning of ÁùºÏ±¦µä's Pride Week, Oct. 7–11.
