Media Advisory: Travis Culinary Students Cook Up Culture During Annual Tamalada

ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD Superintendent Paul Cruz and Board Vice President Geronimo Rogriguez will join Travis Early College High School culinary students in the campus’ annual Tamalada event, which aims to share the Latino culture of making tamales each holiday season.

Who: Students will prepare and assemble a variety of tamales to share with the community. Cruz and Rodriguez will work hands-on with students during the Tamalada.

When: 9–11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12

Where: Travis Early College High School culinary dining room, 1211 E. Oltorf St.

Background: Tamaladas, or tamal-making parties have been a tradition in many Latino families for generations. Multiple families and generations gather during the holidays to cook, assemble and eat the dish. From cooking fillings to kneading masa and preparing wrappers, all members of the community play a part in a Tamalada.
