Funds go toward parent support specialists, family resource centers and after-school programs
ϱ ISD’s parent support specialists, the Prime Time after-school program and ϱ Channel 22 will receive funding in the city of ϱ’s 2016-17 budget, which took effect Oct. 1.
The city funds will continue to help support the district’s community engagement and social service initiatives at a critical time when ϱ estimates it will send $406.1 million to the state through the recapture or “Robin Hood” program this year.
Further, the city budget included approval of Public, Educational and Access Channels funds for capital expenditure for Channel 22 from the city’s Telecommunications and Regulatory Affairs Office.
The city council approved expenditures including:
- $1.28 million to continue funding ϱ’s full-time parent support specialists at 60 campuses, who work to enhance relationships between families and school communities, encourage parent involvement in their students’ education and help educate parents on school services and programs;
- $950,000 to maintain social support services at ϱ campuses for after-school programs at 20 campuses;
- $460,000 for ϱ’s Cable Channel 22 from the city’s Public, Educational and Government capital funding, which is drawn from cable fees to support public affairs and educational programming;
- $106,000 dedicated to fund five ϱ Family Resource Centers as a part of a social service contract with health and human services; and
- $211,125 to continue the city’s Victory Tutorial program, in partnership with ϱ, which provides tutoring at public libraries to students after school.
The city council first voted to support ϱ’s community education programs as part of its 2014-15 budget.

Los especialistas de apoyo a los padres de familia del ϱ ISD, el programa después de clases Prime Time y el Canal 22 del ϱ recibirán financiamiento del presupuesto 2016-2017 de la ciudad de ϱ, que entró en vigor a partir del 1.° de octubre.
