MEDIA ADVISORY: ÁùºÏ±¦µä Celebrates Second Consecutive Designation as Largest No Place for Hate District in Nation

ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD has been named the largest No Place For Hate district in the nation—with all schools participating—by Anti-Defamation League for the second consecutive year.

´¡¶Ù³¢â€™s  was developed to organize schools to work together and develop projects that enhance the appreciation of diversity and foster harmony among diverse groups. The campaign empowers schools to promote respect for individual and group differences while challenging prejudice and bigotry.

Who: Superintendent Paul Cruz and Interim Chief Schools Officer Edmund Oropez

What: All ÁùºÏ±¦µä principals are invited to celebrate ÁùºÏ±¦µä’s designation as the largest No Place for Hate district in the nation. Each school will receive a No Place for Hate banner, and all 124 banners will be unfurled for photos. Schools will keep their banners for display on their campuses.

When: 9–10 a.m.Tuesday, June 16

Background: ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD’s Cultural Proficiency & Inclusiveness Department, in the Office of Academics, is proud to announce that ÁùºÏ±¦µä has earned the designation as the largest No Place for Hate district in the nation.

ÁùºÏ±¦µä’s Whole Child / Every Child is a districtwide focus, which includes a plan for integrating the Anti-Defamation League's No Place for Hate campaign. The campaign highlights student coalitions that plan and implement projects and activities, resulting in students owning the projects and being responsible for enforcing the campaign’s main beliefs.

At Travis High School, students engage in many activities to maintain the school’s No Place for Hate designation. , one of the campus’ annual events led by culinary students, includes sharing family recipes and cultural stories tied to those recipes.

Travis has improved its graduation rates for the past three years. Its culinary and hospitality management programs prepare students for careers through real-world work experiences with partners like Hilton Hotels and ÁùºÏ±¦µä restaurateurs.
