ÁùºÏ±¦µä Board of Trustees Approves New Principal Appointments

Govalle, Harris and Gorzycki get new leaders

On Monday, ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD's Board of Trustees approved new principal appointments for Govalle and Harris elementary schools and Gorzycki Middle School.

Gorzycki Middle School

Cathryn Mitchell, Ph.D., was appointed to lead Gorzycki.

Mitchell most recently served as Oak Hill Elementary School's principal. In this role, she fostered partnership with the school's PTA, implemented a two-way dual language program and facilitated grant writing to support educational programs.

She previously served as an administrative supervisor for ÁùºÏ±¦µä's elementary schools, a principal at Houston Elementary School, assistant principal at Widen Elementary School, summer school principal at SOAR/SUCCESS Summer Program and taught fifth grade at Houston Elementary School.

Mitchell has a master's degree in educational administration from Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University, and a doctorate of philosophy in school improvement from Texas State University. She also received her superintendent certification in 2010.

Govalle Elementary School

The Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Paula Reyes to lead Govalle Elementary School.

Reyes most recently served as assistant principal at Allison Elementary School. In this role, she provided feedback and guidance to classroom teachers, facilitated data days to assist teachers with instructional planning and supervised custodial, office and cafeteria staff.

 

She also managed child study teams on a weekly basis to discuss struggling students and was responsible for Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System testing.

 

She previously served as an ÁùºÏ±¦µä math curriculum specialist, a bilingual math instructional specialist at Odom Elementary and a bilingual teacher at both Allan and T.A. Brown Elementary schools.

 

Reyes has a master's degree in education leadership from Lamar University.

 

Harris Elementary School

Harris Elementary School will now be led by Mónica Martínez.

 

Martínez recently served as interim principal at Harris Elementary. In this role, she planned, implemented and supervised campus instructional programs, hired and coached teachers in instruction and classroom management, and managed the school budget. She also maintained a relationship with the community through family nights, community forums and PTA meetings, and maintained campus disciplinary policies.

 

She previously served as assistant principal at Mendez Middle School, principal at Jack Frost Elementary School in Georgetown ISD and assistant principal at Hopewell Middle School in Round Rock ISD, as well as numerous other positions.

 

Martínez has a master's degree in education administration from Texas State University.
