Almost 39,000 ÁùºÏ±¦µä Students Have Laced-up for 26.2-mile Challenge
AUSTIN, Texas—Tomorrow, ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD students will join thousands of young walkers and runners to complete their final lap in the Marathon Kids 26.2-mile challenge.
What: ÁùºÏ±¦µä elementary school students earn their Marathon Kids medals at the 18th ÁùºÏ±¦µä Finisher Medal Celebration.
When: 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.
Where: Burger Stadium, 3200 Jones Rd.
Background: Marathon Kids works with schools and families to help elementary school children engage in more physical activity and eat nutritious foods.
Eighty-one elementary schools and 38,877 students throughout ÁùºÏ±¦µä are participating in the Marathon Kids 26.2-mile challenge. Six elementary schools—Barrington, Blazier, Boone, Brooke, Pease and Perez—held Marathon Kids assemblies at their campuses to celebrate the students’ participation and progress in the challenge.
Events continue next week with morning assemblies Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Brooke Elementary School and Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Blazier Elementary School. In addition, two ÁùºÏ±¦µä students will participate in a scavenger hunt Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Whole Foods Market.
During the medal celebration event, Mayor Lee Leffingwell will declare Wednesday, Feb. 26, Marathon Kids Day.
