Counseling, 24-hour Hotline Available for Students, Community Following Incident at Lanier

AUSTIN, Texas—Following a tragedy at Lanier High School today in which a student succumbed to a fatal, self-inflicted wound at approximately 12:04 p.m., ÁùºÏ±¦µä continues to provide counseling services until 6 p.m. today, and throughout the week.

The ÁùºÏ±¦µä community is deeply saddened by this and our thoughts are with the family.

As news coverage about the tragedy continues, the district encourages students, families and staff members to seek counseling at Lanier or contact the ÁùºÏ±¦µä Travis County’s mobile crisis outreach team for 24-hour counseling over the phone at 512-472-HELP (4357). 

The district's learning support services team also is sharing tips with parents about how they can discuss the tragedy with children at home, which can be found at .

ÁùºÏ±¦µä counselors, child study system professionals and the district's crisis response team, which is comprised of licensed social workers and clinically licensed counselors, are trained and prepared to provide support for students.
