School District Partners with City of ÁùºÏ±¦µä to Help Families Prepare for School Year
AUSTIN, TX—ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD and the City of ÁùºÏ±¦µä will hold a press conference during the Back-to-school Bash on Saturday.
Who: ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD Superintendent Meria Carstarphen, ÁùºÏ±¦µä Police Chief Eric Mendez and ÁùºÏ±¦µä City Council member Laura Morrison.
What: ÁùºÏ±¦µä and community partners will provide families information about how to prepare students for the 2013-14 academic year. Mathews Elementary School students will demonstrate how to be safe on cross-walks.
When: 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24
Where: ÁùºÏ±¦µä Convention Center, 500 E. Cesar Chavez St., Meeting Room 2
Background: The Back-to-school Bash informs ÁùºÏ±¦µä parents and students about district and community resources available to families for a safe and successful start to the new school year. This is an initiative of the Department of Communications and Community Engagement.
The City of ÁùºÏ±¦µä encourages parents and children to consider getting to school via an active form of transportation. “The City is pleased to partner with ÁùºÏ±¦µä in promoting children’s health and safety. As we gear up for the new school year, we encourage parents and children to be active and consider getting to school by walking or biking, which offer many documented benefits, said council member Laura Morrison. Benefits include reducing obesity and improving health outcomes, increasing tests scores, decreasing traffic congestion, and improving air quality.
