ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD Celebrates Juneteenth

AUSTIN, TX—ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD staff members, students and the ÁùºÏ±¦µä community will celebrate Juneteenth at this year’s parade.

What: ÁùºÏ±¦µä team members and members of the Board of Trustees will lead the ÁùºÏ±¦µä All-Star band in the parade, showcasing custom-designed ÁùºÏ±¦µä T-shirts and carrying an ÁùºÏ±¦µä banner.

Schedule of events:

10 a.m. Saturday, June 15            Juneteenth Historical Parade             Comal St. and MLK Blvd.

Background: Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a holiday commemorating the day Texas learned President Lincoln declared the end of slavery. The official holiday is June 19.

ÁùºÏ±¦µä’s Department of Communications and Community Engagement is coordinating the district’s involvement in the parade as part of its efforts to improve outreach to the African-American community. The parade is sponsored by the Greater East ÁùºÏ±¦µä Youth Association, the City of ÁùºÏ±¦µä and ÁùºÏ±¦µä Parks and Recreation.
