Summitt Elementary School Community Rings in Vietnamese New Year Friday

ÁùºÏ±¦µä, TX—ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD's Summitt Elementary School is gearing up to celebrate Tet, the most important and popular holiday and festival in Vietnam, with a fundraising dinner, followed by a spectacular performance by dance groups in each grade.

What: Summitt community celebrates Tet with a dinner and a show, featuring dance performances, martial arts and the unique sound of the Taiko Drums. The organizers suggest a $3 donation for the fundraising dinner.

When: 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8.

Where: Summitt Elementary School, cafeteria, 12207 Brigadoon Lane

Background: Tet is celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Lunar calendar, which falls on Feb. 10 this year. The celebration shares many of the customs of the Chinese New Year. It is customary that families clean their homes before the first day of the new year to sweep away bad luck in order to make way for good luck.
