Travis High Culinary Students Host Peace through Pie Celebration

ÁùºÏ±¦µä, Texas—This week, students in Travis High School's culinary arts program will host a Peace through Pie celebration to build relationships in the community and encourage unity amid diversity in the ÁùºÏ±¦µä. 

What: The Peace through Pie celebration, which is part of a national movement that aims to cultivate peace and bring diverse community groups together through food and conversation, will feature desserts created by the school's culinary students, musical performances and student artwork.

Who: More than 200 people are expected to attend the event, including a representative from the office of Texas State Rep. Dawnna Dukes, who will deliver a special proclamation, Hoover Alexander from Hoover's Cooking, Phil Korsha from Home Slice Pizza and Luanne Stovall, co-creator and founder of Peace through Pie. 

When: 3 to 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25.  

Where: Travis High School, cafeteria, 1211 E. Oltorf St.  

Background: The Peace through Pie celebration is part of the school's broader efforts to encourage tolerance and understanding through its No Place for Hate® designation. The initiative from the Anti-Defamation League provides educators and students with the resources to ensure that anti-bias and diversity education are an integral part of the school curriculum.
