The Bowie High School community, staff, families and friends joined together June 15 to celebrate the 2020 graduating class through a virtual ceremony.
Superintendent Paul Cruz congratulated the graduates of this year's class via a video statement. His remarks were followed by a speech from Principal Mark Robinson.
“In my 23 years of experience as an educator, I have never known a senior class more dedicated and resilient in the face of adversity,” said Robinson
Next, Salutatorian Kathryn Cole spoke about the Class of 2020’s achievements and its ability to adapt to rapid change.
“It has been wonderful to see students showing up to online class and completing optional assignments," Cole said. "It is a testament to our senior class and our teachers that we are still striving to learn in a time where giving up would be all too easy."
Before the reading of the names of each graduating senior, Valedictorian Talia Hanley highlighted how past experiences will make classmates better prepared for the future.
“If any graduating class has the fortitude to go forth with resiliency in this time of uncertainty, it will be the proud, strong, and ever-optimistic Class of 2020,” said Hanley.
The ceremony concluded with a reading of the names of each graduating senior.
