The Texas Education Agency is offering optional end-of-year assessments for spring 2020.
These assessments are intended to be an optional tool families can use to measure student progress and understanding of the statewide curriculum—the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills—taught this school year.
The EOY assessments have been built using released State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test questions. The results from this activity will help demonstrate how well a student has mastered grade-level knowledge and skills this year.
These tests results are solely to help families support their students and will not be used for accountability purposes for students or schools. Families can use the results as they talk with their children's school about how best to support students moving forward.
The optional EOY assessments cover the same grades/subjects and courses that are provided for STAAR. They include
- Grades 3–8 mathematics and reading
- Grades 4 and 7 writing
- Grades 5 and 8 science
- Grade 8 social studies, Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology and U.S. History
Spanish versions of EOY assessments are also available for
- Grades 3–5 mathematics and reading
- Grade 4 writing
- Grade 5 science
Writing assessments do not include a writing prompt and are multiple-choice only, and EOY assessments for Algebra II and English III are not offered.
TEA has created that contains all information families will need to know about the assessments, as well as a link for families to register students for the assessment.
The optional EOY assessments are available until June 12.
