Norman Elementary School Groundbreaking

""

On May 23, the Norman Tiger Community were on the move!

Community members gathered to celebrate the new milestone in the school's modernization project with a student parade from Sims Elementary to Norman and a groundbreaking ceremony at the Norman campus.

Norman Elementary is one of the campuses receiving a full modernization as part of the 2017 ÁùºÏ±¦µä Bond Program. The groundbreaking marks 12 months of construction to modernize the school into a 21st-century learning space, characterized by the smart use of space, integration of technology, collaborative workstations, outdoor learning spaces and student mobility in the classroom.

The morning event featured the Boss Street Brass Band providing music for the parade and a special appearance by The Little Normans, who commemorated the school's namesake, Granville Webster Norman. The event also included remarks by Norman Principal Mills, ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD Board President Geronimo Rodriguez, and ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD Superintendent Dr. Paul Cruz.

As the guest of honors, descendants of the great Mr. Granville W. Norman attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including his granddaughter Ms. Delia Mary Norman Jones accompanied by her two daughters and nephews.

The ceremony concluded with the actual groundbreaking itself. Students and staff rolled up their sleeves and picked up a shovel and shoved the soil, marking a new beginning for both the school and the community.

Thank you to everyone who joined this special community gathering, and for your continued support as ÁùºÏ±¦µä creates 21st-century learning spaces for all students!
