High school diplomas were awarded this morning to more than 450 high school seniors from LBJ Early College High School and the Liberal Arts and Science Academy combined in a graduation ceremony at the Frank Erwin Center.
LASA Valedictorian Gabriel Alvarez marveled at "this beautiful and complex moment" as his LBJ ECHS counterpart, Alyson Weekley, implored her fellow graduates to take ownership of their futures.
"We have spent the last 13 years of our lives with decisions being made for us," she said. "But starting tomorrow, we are all the purveyors of our own life choices. Continue with the same hard work mentality that has brought you here today."
Among the accomplishments made by the two schools this school year were:
- The LBJ football team was the 25-5A district champion and bi-district finalist, going 6-0 in district play.
- The LBJ boys basketball team won the area championship.
- The LBJ boys wrestling team won the district championship.
- The LASA team won first place in computer science at the UIL state competition.
Congratulations to the 2017 LBJ and LASA classes of 2017! We’re of our !
