Update 9:26 p.m. Feb.16: Classes at Bowie High School will continue as scheduled tomorrow, February 17. ÁùºÏ±¦µä plumbing staff were able to locate the water line break and make all necessary repairs.
Bowie High School students were released at about 1 p.m. today after a broken water line caused the water to be shut off to the campus.
Staff became aware of the broken water line before classes began Tuesday morning and immediately contacted district plumbers.
Plumbers began pumping water from underneath the building to determine the cause of the leak.
At the same time, ÁùºÏ±¦µä brought to campus portable toilets, hand sanitizer and bottled water. Students and their families received a call letting them know about the situation.
The bottled water was placed near water fountains throughout the school; students did not have to purchase the water.
The cafeteria operated as normal and students were fed hot meals during both lunch periods.
Plumbers will work into the evening to repair the pipe, and students and their families will receive a call later today to let them know about classes for tomorrow.
Bowie students will not be penalized for any absences today.
Please check back soon for updates.
