During the storms on Oct. 30, portions of 23 classrooms at Palm Elementary School were flooded with 4–5 inches of water.
Because of the damage caused by the water, Palm students will not report to school on Monday, Nov. 2.
ÁùºÏ±¦µä restoration crews removed the water from the building and began cleanup on Saturday. The damaged wing of the building has been sealed off, and air quality samples were being taken on Sunday.
Staff and students at Palm will continue to operate in the undamaged half of the building. However, it will take an estimated three to four weeks for remediation crews to return Palm to full operations.
Plans include transporting Palm students whose classrooms were in the damaged areas to the Allan Center, 4900 Gonzales St., until other solutions are realized, which may include bringing portables at Palm.
Beginning on Nov. 3, PPCD, Pre-K, kindergarten and first-grade students will report to Palm in the morning and then ÁùºÏ±¦µä will transport them to the Allan Center. ÁùºÏ±¦µä personnel will return students to Palm at the end of the day so students can walk home with siblings or participate in Extend-a-Care at the end of the day.
Faculty and staff will report to the campus Monday to prepare for the return of students on Tuesday.
ÁùºÏ±¦µä will hold two parent meetings Monday, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., to share detailed information with parents and to answer any questions.
