ÁùºÏ±¦µä Energy Green Building announced Monday that the ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD Performing Arts Center has received an AEGB 5-Star Rating.
The rating is AEGB's highest honor and is awarded to buildings that show a considerable commitment to sustainable design and construction practices.
The PAC exceeded minimum requirements for the rating, receiving 62 out of a possible 77 points. The award commended energy savings at the PAC, which uses a solar array, and the use of reclaimed water and high-efficiency plumbing fixtures to reduce total water usage by more than 65 percent.
During construction, 835 tons of construction waste was recycled. More than 35 percent of material used in the building was made from recycled content and more than 51 percent was sourced from Texas, reducing transportation emissions and supporting the local economy. Nearly all the wood in the building was sourced from sustainably managed forests.
The PAC is only the sixth commercial building to achieve an AEGB 5-Star Rating. ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD also received a 5-Star Rating for the McCallum High School Theater Addition in 2011 and a 4-Star Rating for Guerrero Thompson Elementary School this spring. In total, 31 ÁùºÏ±¦µä building projects have achieved an AEGB Rating since 2004.
Voters approved construction of the PAC in the 2008 bond. The building was designed by Pfluger Architects and Miró Rivera Architects and built by American Constructors Inc.
