Leadership Academy Dedication Ceremonies This Weekend

You are cordially invited to attend the dedication ceremonies for the Bertha Sadler Means Young Women's Leadership Academy and the Gus Garcia Young Men's Leadership Academy. Both ceremonies will feature remarks by Congressman Lloyd Doggett, Former State Rep. Wilhelmina Delco, Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz and ÁùºÏ±¦µä Trustee Cheryl Bradley.

Background: On April 28, the ÁùºÏ±¦µä ISD Board of Trustees approved the name of Bertha Sadler Means Young Women's Leadership Academy for the renaming of Pearce Middle School. Beginning this school year, the school opened as a middle school for young women. The Bertha Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy educates students in a cooperative learning environment that promotes scholarship, leadership, character education and community service leading toward a successful transition to the LBJ Early College High School to pursue success in college, career and life.

Background: Beginning this school year, Gus Garcia Young Men’s Leadership Academy opened as a middle school for young men. The Gus Garcia Young Men's Leadership Academy educates scholars in an academic environment where they will learn to be leaders and provide community service, empathetic toward others, develop a strong sense of community, graduate from a four-year college or university and/or pursue a career.
