Anderson High School Celebrates 40th Anniversary Oct. 25-26

L.C. Anderson High School invites alumni, current and former staff; students and their families; and the community to celebrate its 40th anniversary with an Anniversary Program, Homecoming game and other events Oct. 25-26.

Trojan Tributes, which will be included in the event program, are being sold for $40 and allow purchasers to memorialize and/or recognize children, classmates, teachers and others associated with Anderson High School.  Tributes may be purchased at  through Thursday, Oct. 17.  Tickets for the tailgate and transportation (see more information below) to the Homecoming game are on sale through Oct. 10.

Proceeds from the celebration will benefit improvements to the Anderson cafeteria and outdoor eating spaces.

Anniversary Events

Friday, Oct. 25

3–3:20 p.m.                        Pep Rally 1

The first of two pep rallies will take place in the Anderson gym, featuring Anderson cheerleaders, mascots, Belles, band and football players. 

3:45–4:05 p.m.                  Pep Rally 2

The second of two pep rallies will take place in the Anderson gym, featuring Anderson cheerleaders, mascots, Belles, band and football players. 

4:30 p.m.                             Homecoming parade

A Homecoming parade will wind through the Westover Hills neighborhood beginning at the corner of Steck Avenue and Mesa Drive, heading north on Mesa Drive, turning east on Hyridge Drive, turning south on Robbie Drive, turning west on Cima Serena Drive and ending in Anderson’s north parking lot. Student organizations and spirit groups will be joined by alumni groups of band, Belles, cheerleaders and choir in the parade line-up. 


Saturday, Oct. 26

9-11 a.m.                             Self-guided tours of the Anderson campus

Alumni and visitors can guide themselves through Anderson’s halls to note the many building improvements made from prior bond packages, including a robotics and engineering lab, enlarged band hall, dance gym, black-box theater, film studio and science classrooms. The school will showcase Trojan memorabilia throughout the years in display cases at the front of the campus. 

8:30-10:45 a.m.                 Performance of “Aurora” by Anderson Band

Visitors can watch the award-winning Anderson Band perform its halftime show, “Aurora,” on its practice field in the center of the south parking lot. Following practice, the drum line and Belles will lead visitors into the gym for the Anniversary Program.  

11 a.m.-noon                     Anniversary Program

Dr. Charles Akins, Anderson’s first principal, will speak at the Anniversary Program, along with ϱ Board President Vincent Torres, current principal Donna Houser, 2013-14 Leadership Council President Sarah Nielsen and Capt. Duke Huston, 1974 spring senior class president. The Anderson cheerleaders, orchestra, theater and choir also will perform. As the audience is being seated, a slideshow featuring photos of the past 40 years will be screened.

11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.             Tailgating

Following the Anniversary Program, guests can “tailgate” in the Anderson cafeteria with a barbeque lunch to catch up with friends and former teachers, peruse old photos, and enjoy music from the ’70s.   Tickets for the barbeque are available at .

1:15 p.m.                             Transportation to Homecoming Game

Buses to House Park Stadium will depart at 1:15 p.m. so that fans arrive in time for the 2 p.m. Homecoming game against ϱ High School.  Tickets for the round-trip bus ride and the football game may be purchased online at ;

2 p.m.                                   Homecoming Football Game

Anderson will play ϱ at House Park Stadium at 1301 Shoal Creek Blvd. During halftime, Principal Donna Houser will announce the 2013 Homecoming King and Queen and their court. 

Please note that tickets for the barbeque and bus ride must be purchased by Thursday, Oct. 10.

Anderson High School, located at 8403 Mesa Drive, serves approximately 2,230 students. The school opened Aug. 27, 1973, and was formally dedicated Jan. 20, 1974.  In partnership with parents and the community, Anderson strives to provide a comprehensive educational experience that is high quality, challenging and inspires all students to make a positive contribution to society.
