Liberal Arts and Science Academy Hosts “Road Show” for Prospective Applicants

The ϱ School District's Liberal Arts and Science Academy High School (LASA) is putting on a “LASA Road Show” throughout the month of October to provide information about the academic magnet high school to parents and students. All eighth-grade students, their parents and others interested in enrolling in the academy are invited to attend the informational meetings, which are occurring at schools across the city.

Administrators, teachers, students and parents will be on-hand to provide information about the application process, curriculum, courses, college preparation, extracurricular activities, transportation, awards and other accolades.

Road Show information sessions will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., with the first 30 minutes serving as a time for individuals to participate in an informal meet-and-greet with school leadership. The formal presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. The meeting schedule includes the following:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 10, Kealing Middle School, 1607 Pennsylvania Ave.
  • Wednesday, Oct.17, Hill Elementary School, 8601 Tallwood Drive
  • Monday, Oct. 22, Webb Middle School, 601 East St. Johns Ave.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 30, Patton Elementary School, 6001 Westcreek Drive

Background:
LASA emphasizes academic excellence and college preparation in the four core subject areas: math, science, language arts and social studies, and offers many interdisciplinary and signature electives. Students who attend LASA will graduate on the Distinguished Achievement Program—the most rigorous diploma offered by State Board of Education of Texas. LASA students also participate in many school activities that allow them to compete regularly at the state and national levels, thus granting them the skills and capacity to apply to and succeed at the nation's best colleges and universities. Through activities inside and outside of class, students are given opportunities to experience teamwork, leadership, and service.

Recognition:
The Texas Education Agency has consistently rated LASA as an Exemplary campus, and Newsweek ranks LASA among the top high schools in the country at #38. Additionally, LASA has been repeatedly named to the Texas Business and Education Coalition Honor Roll as one of the Texas’s best schools.
