The Viking gold is shining brighter this year as Lanier High School celebrates its 50th Golden Anniversary (1961-2011). You won’t want to miss all of the fun activities planned for alumni, their families and community members on Saturday, November 12!
The festivities kick-off at 8 a.m. on Saturday with the Viking Charge 3K Fun Run, or for the Vikings who prefer riding to running, there will be a Ride and Raid of the J. Lorraine Ghost Town near Manor open to all motorcyclists at 10 a.m.
Be sure to make it back to the Lanier campus Saturday afternoon to sample the food vendors set up in the courtyard, along with souvenirs, games, a photo booth and other fun activities for the family. The celebration will also include a silent auction, dedication of the new Lanier theater, induction of Ms. Gayla King and Mr. Wayne Skrhak to the Lanier Hall of Honor, performances by LHS fine arts students, the opening of the 1986 time capsule and a mix-and-mingle with former Lanier staff and students. The night will conclude with a barbecue dinner, photo remembrance and a dance featuring live music by the Fabulous Chevelle’s!
For those looking to contribute to Lanier’s legacy, a few opportunities are available: personalized, engraved bricks are available for purchase and will be used to repave the courtyard; donated items are being accepted for the silent auction on November 12; and a scholarship fund has been established at the $250 or above donation level.
